Knowing where you are going in advance
For Fivoor, we created a growing series of virtual tours through clinics and departments in Rotterdam, Poortugaal, Utrecht and Bilthoven. Patients, family members, referrers and prospective employees can calmly see what a location looks like and what they can expect inside.
An admission or first visit to a forensic psychiatric facility can raise many questions and create tension. The tours make the environment easier to understand without requiring an immediate visit. Visitors choose their own route, revisit spaces and read or listen to explanations whenever they need them.

More than one location and more than one audience
The collaboration covers several clinics and tour variants. The verified tours include AFZ Rotterdam, FPK Rotterdam, FVK Rotterdam and Wier Clinic Open in Bilthoven. Fivoor also lists tours of FPC de Kijvelanden, FPA Utrecht and FPA Rotterdam. Every location has its own layout, security level, audience and story, so each tour has tailored content.
The tours cover entrances, corridors, patient and client rooms, living rooms, kitchens, treatment rooms, sports facilities, activity rooms, patios and daytime activities. Informative text and a fixed location list help visitors navigate directly to the areas they want to see.

Separate explanations for children and adults
FPK Rotterdam contains two separate routes: one for children and one for adults. After the general introduction, visitors choose the version that suits them best. The children's version uses short, clear explanations and helps young visitors understand what a clinic is and what they may see during a visit.
The adult route can provide more background about treatment, the environment and the stay. The building remains recognisable while the explanation is tailored to the visitor, making the same digital environment useful to different audiences.
From treatment to everyday life
The tours show more than an entrance or representative reception area. The combination of treatment spaces and everyday places creates a more realistic picture. Prospective patients can see where people eat together, relax, exercise or take part in activities.
At Wier Clinic Open, the route includes the reception area, client rooms, shared living room and kitchen, refectories, sports and therapy areas and daytime activities. The accompanying information explains what happens in these spaces and who the clinic serves.

Preparing for an admission
Fivoor deliberately uses digital imagery for preparation. In the project Warm Welkom at FPC de Kijvelanden, a welcome document, a 360° video and a VR experience were combined. New patients could familiarise themselves with the FPC and gain an impression of their stay before admission.
According to Fivoor, patients who used the video or VR experience responded positively to the information. These tools complement personal contact by allowing people to explore at their own pace and revisit anything that still raises questions.
Calm, familiarity and a more realistic first impression
The virtual tours are also useful for relatives who want to see where someone is staying. Referrers and practitioners can introduce a location in advance, while prospective employees gain a first impression of the workplace. Fivoor also describes this broad use in its own news article about virtual tours through the clinics. virtual tours through the clinics.
